What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is how often AI assistants name or cite your business when people ask questions in your category. It is measured by asking the same questions across assistants, countries and languages on a schedule, then recording who is named and which sites are cited. This guide explains what AI visibility is, how it is measured, what improves it, and how to check yours.
AI visibility in one sentence
AI visibility is how often AI assistants name or cite your business when people ask questions in your category. It is not about where you rank in a list of links. It is about whether you appear in the answer itself.
When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, the assistant gives a short answer. It might name a few businesses, or none. If your business is not in that answer, you are invisible to that customer at that moment.
For example, a dentist in Leeds might ask an assistant: "Who is a good emergency dentist near me?" The assistant might name three practices and cite two websites. If the dentist is not named, they miss the customer. That is the gap AI visibility measures.
This matters because more people now ask assistants instead of searching through pages of results. If your business is not in the answer, you are not in the conversation.
How it is measured
Measurement starts with the questions your customers actually ask. Not keywords, but full questions in plain language. For example, a bakery in Toronto might ask: "Where can I order a custom birthday cake with one day notice?"
Those questions are then asked across multiple AI assistants, in different countries and languages, on a schedule you choose. The schedule can be daily, weekly or monthly. Each answer is recorded in full.
For each answer, the measurement records three things:
- Whether your business is named or cited.
- Who is named instead, if anyone.
- Which websites the assistant cites as sources.
Doing this once tells you little. Doing it on a schedule shows patterns. You can see if you are appearing more or less often, and whether the assistants that matter to you are naming you.
Vasukai checks 9 assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Sarvam) in 24 languages from the customer's country. It shows where a business is named, who is named instead and which websites the answers cite. It also writes the fixes. There is a free AI check at /sign-in?scan=1.
What improves it
Improving AI visibility is not about tricks. It is about making your business easy for assistants to understand and cite. Three things matter most.
- Clear pages that answer questions. Write pages that directly answer the questions your customers ask. Use plain language and short paragraphs. For example, a plumber in Manchester might add a page titled "How much does an emergency call-out cost?" with a clear answer near the top.
- Consistent business facts. Make sure your name, address, phone number and opening hours are the same everywhere online. Assistants pick up conflicting facts and may avoid naming you. For example, if your website says you open at 8am but a directory says 9am, that inconsistency can hurt.
- Mentions on the sites assistants cite. Look at which websites the assistants cite in your category. If those sites mention your business, you are more likely to be named. For example, a hotel in Cape Town might be listed on a local tourism site that assistants often cite.
Each of these takes work. Start with the questions you see in your measurement. If an assistant answers a question but does not name you, check whether you have a page that answers that question clearly.
Vasukai gives a ranked list of actions and a "Write it for me" button that drafts the text for each fix, such as page copy, FAQs and business descriptions. That can save time when you know what to change but not how to write it.
Measuring yours
You can start by checking what one assistant says about your business. Ask it the questions your customers ask. See if you are named. That gives you a rough idea.
For a fuller picture, you need to check across assistants, countries and languages on a schedule. That is what Vasukai does. It checks 9 assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Sarvam) in 24 languages from the customer's country. It shows where a business is named, who is named instead and which websites the answers cite. It also writes the fixes.

Questions
Is AI visibility the same as SEO?
Related but different. SEO measures where you rank in a list of links. AI visibility measures whether you are named or cited in the answer itself. You can rank well and still be missing from AI answers.
Which assistants matter?
The ones your customers use. That varies by country and by industry. For example, customers in India may use Sarvam, while customers in the US may use ChatGPT or Gemini. Check where your customers ask questions.
