AI Overviews tracker: does Google's AI answer name you?
AI Overviews are the AI-written answers Google shows above normal search results. This guide explains what they are, why checking once is not enough, how to check by hand, what a tracker does, what moves an overview, and how to start with a free check.
What AI Overviews are
AI Overviews are the AI-written answer Google shows above the normal results for many searches, with links to the pages it drew on. Google AI Mode is a separate, fuller chat-style answer reached from its own tab. Both are written by Google's models from pages Google has indexed.
For a question like 'best dentist in Pune' the overview can name a few businesses. If you are not one of them, a customer can decide without ever scrolling to your listing.
That is why business owners now ask 'am I in Google AI Overviews?' It is a fair question. The overview is often the first thing a customer reads, and it can mention a handful of businesses by name.
Why checking once is not enough
AI Overviews do not appear for every search, and whether one appears can change from day to day and by country. The businesses named change too, as Google indexes new pages and reviews.
Your own searches are shaped by your location and history, so what you see is not what a new customer sees. A tracker asks the same questions the same way, from the customer's country, on a schedule.
For example, a dentist in Leeds might search 'best dentist in Leeds' and see their own practice named. A new patient searching the same phrase from a nearby town might see a different overview with different names. Without a regular check, you would never know.
How to check by hand
You can check AI Overviews yourself without any tool. It takes a few minutes per question, and it works well for a small set of searches.
- Search the questions your customers ask, in their words, in a private window and with the location set to their area.
- Note whether an overview appears, whether your business is named, who else is named, and which pages are linked as sources.
- Repeat weekly and keep the notes in a sheet. This works for a handful of questions; it does not scale past that.
The manual method is a good starting point. It shows you what the overview looks like and which competitors keep appearing. But it is easy to forget, hard to compare over time, and does not cover other AI assistants.
What a tracker does for you
A tracker asks a set of customer questions on a schedule and records, for each one, whether an overview appeared, whether you were named, who was named instead and which sites were cited.
Vasukai checks Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode alongside ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other assistants, so you see whether the same competitors win everywhere or only on Google. Every answer is kept in full, and the sources are listed, so you can see which pages to get mentioned on.
Vasukai also gives a ranked list of actions and a 'Write it for me' button that drafts the text for each fix, such as page copy, FAQs or business descriptions. Plans start at $19 a month, and you choose which assistants and how many questions.

What moves an AI Overview
The overview is built from pages Google already indexes, so the usual SEO basics come first: the page must be crawlable, fast and clear about what you do and where.
- Answer the question directly on your page, in plain language, near the top, and keep facts such as services, prices and opening hours up to date.
- Be present on the pages the overview cites for your market: directories, review sites, local guides and forums.
- Reviews and consistent business details across Google Business Profile and your site help Google trust what to say about you.
For example, a bakery in Bristol might add a short paragraph at the top of its homepage saying 'We are a family-run bakery in Bristol. We bake fresh sourdough daily and offer vegan options.' That plain answer is easy for Google to use.

Start with a free check
Vasukai's free AI check asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode the questions a customer asks about a business like yours and shows who is named; no card is needed. You can try it at free AI visibility checker.
Paid plans add Google AI Overviews and the other assistants, with a weekly or daily schedule, from $19 a month. That gives you a regular picture of whether you are named, who is named instead, and which sources Google is using.
Questions
Can I see AI Overviews from another country?
Only with the location set to that country, which is awkward by hand. A tracker asks from the customer's country for you.
Does being in an AI Overview replace ranking on Google?
No. The overview draws on ranked pages, so ranking still matters, but the overview is what many people read first.
How often should I check?
Weekly is enough for most local businesses; daily if you run campaigns or compete in a fast-moving market.
Is this the same as AI Mode?
No. AI Overviews sit above normal results; AI Mode is a separate chat-style answer. Vasukai checks both.
